Figma Sites Just Launched, Here’s What a Framer Power User Thinks

Figma has just unveiled its most significant feature in years: Figma Sites, a built-in site builder that allows you to design and publish live websites directly from the Figma canvas.

No handoffs, no exports, and no developers required.

This move is shaking up the no-code world but what does it mean for designers who have built their workflows and careers around tools like Framer?

To find out, we spoke with @DopeOblivion (aka Miguel), a designer who went all-in on Framer and hasn’t looked back. Here’s what he had to say.

“The Figma announcements shocked the design world.”

Figma Sites isn’t just a minor feature it’s a bold step into the no-code arena.

“Figma is finally starting to jump into the no-code space,” Miguel said. “And not just basic sites, they’re trying to compete with full product builders like Lovable and Bolt. It’ll be exciting to see what happens next.”

With responsive layouts, interactive components, hover and scroll effects, a template marketplace, and plans for CMS and React code layers, Figma is targeting a significant portion of Framer’s market. The key difference? It’s all happening within a tool that designers already know and love.

“Framer’s still my go-to but competition is good.”

Miguel’s journey began with Figma, like many designers. But about a year in, he discovered Framer and was instantly captivated.

“The ease, the smoothness, how fast I could go from idea to live site it changed everything,” he said. “These days, I technically use both… but let’s be real: most of my work starts and ends in Framer.”

Even with Figma Sites entering the scene, Miguel isn’t switching. But he’s watching closely.

“With more tools entering the space, it’s only going to push Framer and everyone else to keep shipping better features. That’s a win for us.”

Framer’s Latest Updates: Staying Ahead of the Curve

While Figma is making waves with its new site builder, Framer isn’t standing still. Recent updates have introduced a slew of features aimed at enhancing user experience and performance:

  • Text Balance Property: Allows the browser to visually balance your headings for improved aesthetics.

  • Color and Gradient Animations: Enables smoother transitions and more dynamic designs.

  • Advanced Analytics: Offers built-in click tracking, conversion funnels, and A/B testing, making it easier to gain actionable insights without additional tools.

  • Workshop: A new AI-powered feature that lets you turn ideas into working components just by describing them no code or setup required.

  • Performance Enhancements: Projects now load up to 2.5 times faster, and published sites become interactive 50% quicker, thanks to various optimisations

These updates demonstrate Framer’s commitment to staying at the forefront of no-code web design, ensuring that users have access to powerful tools that streamline their workflows.

Final Take: Should Framer Creators Be Worried?

“Not yet,” Miguel says. “But they should pay attention.”

Figma Sites is still in its early stages. However, with native publishing, design system support, and a massive user base, they’ve got a head start most tools would envy.

The race is on and for creators like Miguel, that’s the best-case scenario.
