How to Switch from Framer Commerce to Frameship

Already built your store with Framer Commerce? You don't have to tear it down and start again. Frameship scans your project, finds the Framer Commerce components in it, and replaces them one at a time without touching your live site.

Why make the switch

You own it. Frameship is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Buy it once, build forever.

Ecommerce is the whole job. Framer builds an amazing website builder. We only build ecommerce for Framer, so that's where all of our attention goes.

Nothing leaves Framer. Your design, your CMS, your pages and your Shopify products all stay exactly where they are. You're swapping the components, not the platform.

There's more in the box. Filtering, sorting and search, bundles, subscriptions, cart upsells, quick view, favorites, discount codes, markets and multi-currency, customer accounts, metafields and personalization inputs. Have a look through the Components docs to see what you'll be able to add once you're across.

Where to find it

Open the Frameship plugin. If there are Framer Commerce components in your project, a Framer Commerce Migration panel appears at the top of the plugin homepage telling you how many it found.

Click the arrow to open it.

The rule to remember

Add the new component and get it working before you remove the old one. Match your content and your design first, then remove.

Your published site keeps running Framer Commerce the whole time. Nothing changes for shoppers until you publish.

Working through the list

The migration screen shows one component at a time, with a counter so you can see how far through you are. For each one you get:

  • The component it found, named as it appears in your project, for example FC_CartClearButton

  • Replacing with, the Frameship component it suggests. If a different one suits your setup better, pick it from the dropdown

  • New version, which drops the Frameship component onto your canvas beside the old one

  • Remove old, for once you're happy with the replacement

The order is always the same. Click New version, reconnect its content and settings, style it to match what you had, check it in preview, then click Remove old.

While both versions are on the canvas your page will look doubled up. That's expected. Old and new components don't work together, so it tidies itself up as you remove each old one.

When you're done

Click Scan again to refresh the list and catch anything missed. When you see You're all set and no Framer Commerce components are left to update, the swap is finished.

Preview the whole store, click through a full add to cart and checkout, then publish.

If a component has no match

Not every Framer Commerce component has a one to one Frameship equivalent. When that happens, pick the closest option from the Replacing with dropdown, or build the behaviour from the standard Frameship components.

If you get stuck on one, message us. A real person picks it up and we'll work out the right setup with you.

Good to know

  • Do it on a draft page or in preview first if you'd rather not touch the live version.

  • Run Scan again after you add new pages, so anything on them gets picked up.

  • Moving old Frameship filter components at the same time? See Migrating to the New Filters. It's the same flow, in the same panel.
